Peridot symbolises good fortune, prosperity, emotional healing, and playfulness. Peridot is the gem variety of the mineral olivine. Its chemical composition includes iron and magnesium; the iron is the cause of the colouration.
The August birthstone, peridot, symbolises strength. It is sometimes called the “evening emerald” for its light green colour. It was once believed that the green peridot crystals found in volcanic ashes were the tears of the volcano goddess, Pele.
